Day 7: Elko, Nevada to Lake Tahoe, California

After miles and miles of dry desert landscape we crossed the California border and it seemed like things were instantly greener. I know that sounds odd given the fires that are raging all over this state, but the flat, brown desert of Nevada gave way to hillsides of evergreens.

No time for pitstops today. Greg had to work all morning getting ready for the niners v. cardinals on Sunday. Our drive was point A to point B with a lunch of cheese and crackers, eaten in the car at the speed of 80 mph -- which suited us, as the barren landscape stretched on and on. I'm sure we could have found the beauty in the harsh terrain if we'd had the time. When we arrived at Lake Tahoe, though, I was able to take a walk while Greg had a conference call. The lake is calm and peaceful, even if the road running by our hotel is busy, busy.

Tomorrow we head to San Jose, Greg's birthplace and the place we'll be for three days as he finishes his preparations for and then covers the niners v. cardinals in the age of Covid. This first NFL broadcast -- no pre-season, no practice -- will be a challenge. No fans, no hoopla, and a Covid swab up your nose as you arrive for work. Greg's a trooper, that's for sure. Here's the map showing our progress for today.
